Egypt

Welcome to Imaginative Arts week!  I am so excited to be a part of this Vanguard year.  I hope you enjoy creating this year.  You can do it and I can't wait to see what you do.

The temple trip planned for this week is postponed.

APPRENTICE


Study and Learn

1. Read and finish the Golden Goblet
2. Cultural Creation: Make contact with your group. Phone call or  email. Be brainstorming ideas.
3. Notecards: classical antiquity, 7 wonders of the ancient world, Moses, plagues of Egypt, Red Sea- parting of, ten commandments
4. Pick a topic about Egyptian culture.  Email me which one you chose so we don't repeat.  Study and learn about your topic.

5.  Watch the movie "The 10 Commandments" directed by Cecile B. DeMille

Know and Understand

1. Make an artifact to represent what you have learned about your Egyptian cultural topic.  Come ready to present what you have learned to the class.  Don't be afraid to get creative and messy.  This is hands on!

2. Write in your Common place books your thoughts on this movie.  Were things portrayed in Egypt  as you had imagined them or were things portrayed "wrong?"

Become and Serve (Remember you only need to do 1 Become and Serve)

1.  Dress up!  Get the eyeliner out!  Come and walk like an egyptian!  Be brave!

JOURNEYMAN

Study and learn

1. Read Put a Cherry on Top pages 1-10
2. Read pages 1-18 in The Drawing Textbook by Bruce McIntyre

Know and Understand

1. Do drawing lesson 1.  Divide the page into 8 sections.  Draw each object at least 8 times.
2. Cut out your best one from each page. Put each of your best drawing onto one page.
3. Bring the page you created with the birthday cake, T.V., candle, ect to class to hang on the wire.
4. Come ready to discuss Put a cherry on Top.
5. Answer  3 of these questions for your own history and write them down. Decide where to put these, in a journal, computer, scrapbook- make a safe place to store the family history you will be writing or collecting this year.  Remember what you learned about quality paper and ink.

  • What did you do to celebrate your first birthday? Ask your parents.
  • Why did your parents choose your name?
  • What is the earliest memory you have?
  • What is your favorite food? include a recipe if possible.
  • What is a funny story from your childhood?
  • What are 5 words that describe you? What words would your parents use? Ask them.


Become and Serve
1. How do you feel about art? Do you see it as a skill that is worth working on? Journal in your commonplace book for 10 minutes.

MASTERS

Study and Learn

1. Read either the Red Pyramid or Stone Tables.  If you have already read either book you must choose the other.  Don't worry they are both good.

2. Read the Bible Story of Moses in Exodus Chapt 2.

1. Design your own Egyptian costume or journal for 10  minutes about "Art is a service to bring enrichment to peoples lives"

1. Come Dressed like an Egyptian.  Remember, the more fun we make Vanguard, the more fun it will be!  :)
